When Eleanor Callaway graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 2020, she dove straight into patent litigation at McKool Smith, including a stint seconded to one of the firm's major clients. She then moved to Vedder Price’s antitrust group in Washington, D.C., where she focused on business development and became deeply involved in the ABA Antitrust Section. From there, she moved to the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition, reviewing HSR filings and working on major antitrust litigation, including the Zillow/Redfin matter. Before law school, she'd already gained experience at the FTC as a paralegal, so in many ways, she'd come full circle.

But somewhere along the way, Eleanor realized the part of the job she loved most wasn't the law itself; it was the people. She liked learning what made them tick, what they wanted out of their careers, and helping them figure out how to get there. When Katy and Karen introduced her to recruiting, she couldn't stop thinking about it. And if anyone was equipped to make a leap like that, it was Eleanor: she'd already made big career changes before, and she knew firsthand that finding the right fit sometimes means stepping outside of your comfort zone.

In 2026, Eleanor made the jump from practicing antitrust law to full-time recruiting, bringing with her a genuine belief that people don't have to stay somewhere just because it's comfortable or because they've already invested the time. She's not afraid to tell candidates the grass really can be greener, and that walking away from something doesn't mean failure. It means you're figuring out what actually works for you.
Outside of work, Eleanor lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband, Carter, and their golden retriever, Cooper. She enjoys riding her bike around the city, creative writing, trying new restaurants, tackling home projects, and spending time with her large extended family. A Nashville native, Eleanor also loves live music and spending time on the water, whether boating, swimming, or enjoying water sports. She's also an enthusiastic cook, with grilled pizzas and cochinita pibil among her favorite recipes, and is a fan of spicy mezcal margaritas.

THE DEETS

I became a recruiter because, while I loved practicing law, I eventually realized my favorite part of the job was the office yapping (often with friends who just happened to be coworkers). I loved talking through tricky work situations, big career dreams, and what makes a team truly click. Turns out, I could make a career out of those conversations! I’m passionate about helping people find the right fit—not just a job, but a place where they can grow, thrive, and do their best work. Plus, I still get to talk to people for a living, which is really the dream.

WHY ARE YOU A RECRUITER?

I would love to be a morning person. I hear sunrises are beautiful, that the early bird gets the worm, and that people who wake up at 5 a.m. somehow manage to run a marathon, meal prep for the week, and launch a business before I’ve opened my eyes. I would love to experience that level of productivity someday! Unfortunately, I could sleep in like a teenager every day, and my relationship with my snooze button remains very strong. I’m choosing to believe I’m just a night owl waiting for the moment.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

A big lake house filled with all my favorite people, my dog Cooper, and absolutely nowhere to be. I’d wake up to the lake outside my window (ideally after a luxurious, non-alarm-induced sleep), take the boat out with my husband for a couple of waterski sets, and finish with a swim. Then it’s slow yoga on the dock with friends, followed by a few hours at a nearby spa, because balance is important!
In the evening, we’d head back for grilled pizza topped with veggies from our own garden, live music by the water, and dancing under the stars. There would be plenty of wine, lots of laughter, and absolutely no one asking me what time I plan to wake up tomorrow. Basically, Mamma Mia! meets a Nancy Meyers movie, with better pizza and my dog as the star.
